Older Adult Fitness 

We offer strength training for older adults using exercise bands, also flexibility training using stretching straps and handles. All are suitable for people over fifty, seniors, and frail older adults. You can increase muscle tone and strength with portable, easy-to-use exercise bands. Ideal for the home or while traveling. Our exercise bands are made of the highest quality rubber latex tubing for abrasion and tear resistance.

The Importance of Strength Training For Older Adults

Turning Back the Aging Clock

For strength-training exercises using resistance bands/tubing, we recommend the Fit-tube & Clip-Tube Exercise Band Kit for average/active older adults and Therapy Bands for inactive seniors/elderly who require seated strength-training exercises (see below). 

Fit-Tube & Clip-Tube Kit
This kit is the most versatile for older adults. Many exercise are included in the instruction sheet, but we recommend these 10 exercises for a basic strength-training program for older adults.

Therapy Bands
Inexpensive option for older adults strength training program. Bands in extra-light resistance and up (7 levels). Additional older adult instructions sheet containing 10 seated exercises.

 

The Dynamic Stretching Strap and the Stretching Handle are safe and effective ways to perform stretching exercises for improving flexibility. Flexibility training is an important part of a well-rounded fitness program--it can develop and maintain range of motion and help reduce age-related stiffness. 

Basic Strength-Training Program for Older Adults
(all of these exercise are included in the Fit-Tube & Clip-Tube Kit. For more exercises see the Exercise Band book (list of exercises)

Squat - buttocks, back of thigh, low back
Hip Extension - buttocks, back of thigh
Leg Extension - front of thigh 
Row - mid-back 
Chest Press - chest, front of shoulder, back of arm 
Reverse Fly - back of shoulder
Bicep Curl - front of arm 
Arm Kickback - back of arm
Outward Arm Rotation - rotator cuff 
Inward Arm Rotation - rotator cuff 

Additional exercises to help support the low back, hips and knees:

Trunk Extension - low back 
Kneeling Crunch - abdominal muscles (strong abs help support the back)
Leg Crossover - inner thigh/hip
Side Leg Lift - outer thigh /hip
Leg Extension - front of thigh (strengthens muscles responsible for keeping the knee tracking properly)
